Hills dotted with olive groves and cultivated vineyards, the saline scent of the sea, not far away, which inebriates the inhabited centres, breathtaking mountain panoramas: this is what appears to the eyes of every visitor who observes the Val Vibrata, an enchanting Eden in which extends the Municipality of Controguerra. This suggestive village, located on the Teramo hills, stands at 267 meters above sea level. and boasts a very pleasant mild climate, thanks to its proximity to the sea and the Laga mountains. This particular and privileged position makes Controguerra the ideal place to develop cultures of oil and wine. The sea wind, the fertile soils and the green hills have made this municipality one of the most important producers of oil and wine in the Teramo area.
Currently in the Controguerra area there are 12 farms dedicated to viticulture, called cellars by the Controguerresi: the Dino Illuminati winery (Contrada S. Biagio, n. 18), the Camillo Montori farm (Via Piane Tronto, n. 65), the Lidia & Amato Viticoltori farm (Contrada San Biagio, n. 2), the Emanuele Rasicci farm (Contrada San Giuseppe, n. 26), the Fiore Podere San Biagio agricultural company (Contrada San Biagio, n. 13), the Tenuta Torretta farm (Contrada Torretta, Via Torretta, n. 13), the Monti farm (Contrada Pignotto, n. 52), the De Angelis Corvi organic winery (Contrada Pignotto), the The Tavoletti Raffaele farm (Contrada San Giovanni, n. 8), the Bossanova winery (Contrada Pignotto, n. 87), the Maurizi farm (Via San Giovanni, n. 28) and the Cantina Cirrià winery (Contrada Pignotto, 81), the latter specialized not in the production of wine but only in that of cooked must.
Some of these companies, in addition to wine, are dedicated to the production of oil, another important wealth of the area. Three oil mills are currently active in Controguerra: the Macci Oil Mill (Via Gabriele d'Annunzio), the Marco Lupi Farm Oil Mill (Contrada Pignotto, n. 18) and the San Michele Oil Mill (Contrada Colle Porcino).
As for the other local products, Controguerra offers a good variety of fruit and vegetables, as well as legumes, wheat, barley and maize.
In addition to the farms, in Controguerra there are numerous small farmers who work the land inherited from generation to generation with passion and who believe in the importance of traditions.
As regards food, if you visit the Teramo area and specifically Controguerra, we enter a world made up of rich and very tasty local dishes, such as the scrippelle 'mbusse, a typical dish made up of a local type of crepes in broth, but also delicious and very traditional virtues, a typical dish of the Teramo area generally consumed in the period of May close to the Labor Day, which consists of a "mix" of ingredients such as spices and typical preserves, various types of meat and pasta, all cooked at least for two consecutive days as tradition dictates. For lovers of second courses, we cannot fail to mention the typical arrosticini and turkey alla canzanese, a typical dish of Teramo and very renowned.
Finally, if you want to end it all with a good dessert, we suggest you taste the typical caggionetti of the area, pastry sweets traditionally filled with chickpeas or grape jam, or, as the "modern" recipes also offer, with chocolate.
