The funeral

When a family member passed away, it was not customary to place a wooden or metal cross in the hands of the deceased, but a cross was prepared by breaking a blessed Candlemas candle: the longer and shorter arm were fused together, causing the a little wax in the centre.
Always on the occasion of the disappearance of a family member, it was customary to hold lu cunzolə, a lunch in which the dishes were prepared by the relatives and subsequently taken to the house where the dear departed was commemorated. The relatives of the deceased did not have to cook; it was all the responsibility of the relatives. After lunch, the dirty dishes and crockery had to remain on the table, because custom wanted it to be forbidden to clean or tidy up the room on the same day. In Rosina Narcisi's diary, a consul is described in which the banquet was held in the room of the dead, after having recited a short rosary, "as was customary".
Another typical custom of funerals was the organization of the funeral procession. There were women who were called to perform particular services related to the funeral function: bring wreaths or flowers, recite prayers, cry in front of the coffin ... The higher the social status of the deceased, the more the procession was enriched by the presence of these figures , who, for the service rendered, received a few lire or produce from the garden as compensation.
