Among the interviews conducted with the elderly of the village, I collected another story concerning the Madonna delle Grazie. The elders say that during one of the wars of the modern era the lansquenets - this reference was used by all the witnesses - placed their artillery along the Tronto river and fired shots against the town. Some cannonballs hit the perimeter walls, but none hit the town. Since several cannonballs were found in the field north of the church of the Madonna delle Grazie, but none had hit the sacred building, the villagers thought that the intercession of the Virgin had saved the town from the bombing.
