The Controguerra cemetery is located on the top of Colle Fruscione (or Froscione). Construction began in 1819, in full Restoration, but it took more than twenty years to complete the work. The cemetery was blessed on March 19, 1841.
From Colle Fruscione you can enjoy an excellent panoramic glimpse of the Piana del Tronto, so much so that, until the unification of Italy, near the cemetery, to the north, a customs guard post was installed in a pinciaia - earthen house.
In the first half of the twentieth century the noble chapels of the old wing were built, still existing today, even if not in an excellent state of conservation. Before it became common to use niches, the tombs were on the ground and some ancient burials of this shape are still present, always in the old part.
At the center of the complex is the cemetery church, a chapel for the functions that were held – and occasionally still held – on site. In the oldest part of the cemetery stands a cross, erected in memory of the religious missions of 1911.
