Category: Nature and parks

For those who love crystal clear sea and golden beaches, the Abruzzo coast is a destination not to be missed and boasts seven locations well known for their beauty.

Starting from Controguerra, passing through the Provincial Road 2 of Villa Lempa SP2, in just 12 minutes we arrive in the first seaside resort, Martinsicuro, a municipality in the Val Vibrata, bathed by the Adriatic Sea and bordering on wonderful villages such as Colonnella.
Martinsicuro is characteristic for its sandy beaches and turquoise sea, for its promenade enriched by palm trees, natural beauties and bathing establishments that offer comfort and fun.
Visiting the city center we can admire the Torrione di Carlo V, which dominates the town and which houses the Antiquarium of Castrum Truentium, a museum that houses archaeological finds brought to light by excavations carried out in the Colle Marzio area, among the most important we find a Longobard tomb found near the Tronto river in Martinsicuro.

Just seven minutes away, starting from Martinsicuro and traveling south along Via Roma, we arrive at Alba Adriatica, one of the seven sisters of the Teramo coast. Characterized by a long beach of very fine sand, also called Spiaggia d'Argento for its silvery reflections, Alba Adriatica boasts a three-kilometer long coastline that attracts lovers of a quiet and relaxing life from all over the world.
Not only a silvery beach, but also a hinterland that offers a vast array of attractions, landscapes and cultural, food and wine events, which will immerse you in the local scents, tastes and traditions. From an artistic point of view, Alba Adriatica is characterized by the presence of many noble villas which, due to their rare beauty, deserve a visit. For example, we find Villa Chiarugi, known as "La Favorita" from the 18th century, or Villa Gianluca Palma, in via Chiarughi, surrounded by a beautiful garden and built in a classic 19th-century style. What about Villa Zanoni, built in the 20th century with ancient and exotic styles, a mix of different styles that make this building unique. For history lovers it is interesting to visit the Torre della Vibrata, which was built in 1568 to defend the territory from Saracen pirates.

A few minutes from Alba Adriatica along the Via Colle Bianco road, we arrive in Tortoreto, an Abruzzo town rich in history, natural and artistic beauties, between the Salino and Vibrata rivers.

The beautiful beach of Tortoreto extends over about 4 km of beach, is equipped with structures and establishments and is awarded the Blue Flag every year, guaranteeing a clean and livable sea for the whole family. An attraction not to be missed is the Fonti del Vascello naturalistic oasis, built in 1988 around a small artificial lake that hosts a huge variety of flora and fauna species. You can take advantage of guided tours to discover this enchanting oasis full of beauty and animal and botanical variety. The main attractions and monuments that can be visited, for those intending to pay a visit to the historic centre, are the Clock Tower located in Tortoreto Alta, the medieval village which constitutes the historic center of Tortoreto. For lovers of religious tourism, we mention the Church of the Madonna della Misericordia, also located in the historic center and built in 1348 and the Church of Sant'Agostino, one of the greatest examples of religious architecture in Tortoreto.

Finally, you can take a break from this artistic and historical tour by stopping at the Belvedere di Tortoreto Alta, a terrace that offers a breathtaking panorama, which extends along the Teramo coast and throughout the area of the valley between the Tronto rivers and Tordino.

The journey continues along the Via Panoramica which in just 14 minutes takes us to Giulianova, an Abruzzo city full of naturalistic itineraries, ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in relaxation and nature after days at the beach.

An area characterized by soft, golden beaches and turquoise sea. Services, cultural and sporting activities are not lacking in Giulianova, making it a family-friendly city and ideal for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Beyond the beautiful coast, it is possible to visit and stroll along the streets of Giulianova Alta, the oldest part which houses historic buildings such as the Church of Santa Maria al Mare, the Belvedere, the Cathedral and the Sanctuary.

We continue our journey along the Via Nazionale/SS16 towards Roseto, one of the main towns on the coast of Teramo. Roseto is also called "lido delle rose", characterized by a long golden beach and crystal clear sea, tourist facilities and cycle paths that run along the entire seafront. For those who love wild nature, it will be extremely pleasant to spend time in the Borsacchio Nature Reserve, a beach away from the noise of the city, where it is possible to swim in solitude, gently rocked by the waves. Also worth visiting is the medieval village of Montepagano, a hamlet of Roseto, which houses ancient monuments such as the Castle of Montepagano, the Porta da Borea and the church of the Santissima Annunziata.

Passing through the SS16, in just 15 minutes we arrive at our penultimate stop Pineto, whose name derives from the vast pine forest that runs along the coast and offers moments of refreshment and relaxation for tourists. Crossed by an unpaved cycle path, Pineto is a paradise for mountain bike enthusiasts or for those who simply want to get away from the frenetic life of the city.

In Pineto we find one of the most beautiful natural wonders, the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area, which takes its name from the Spanish Tower, and extends for about seven kilometers of coastline.

For history lovers, one of the most characteristic places to visit is the Filiani Park, a green oasis that offers breathtaking views of the crystalline sea, and where it is possible to stroll while admiring both the history of this city and the beautiful landscapes. The Villa from which the park takes its name is now used as the Ethnomusicological Center of Abruzzo. Finally, for the more curious it is worth visiting the small village called Santa Maria, a hamlet of Pineto, which houses a particularity, the Cenerone Vulcanello. Apparently a pile of earth, which in reality conceals a particular pseudo-volcanic phenomenon characterized by the ascent of mud, water, clays and hydrocarbons which contribute to its growth.

Finally, continuing along the SS16, we arrive at our final destination, the last of the seven sisters of the Adriatic coast: Silvi. The well-known Abruzzo poet Gabriele D'Annunzio defined Silvi as the Pearl of the Adriatic, a place that embodied uniqueness and beauty. Silvi Marina boasts a 6km long beach full of numerous seaside resorts, accommodation facilities and attractions that allow families and groups of friends to spend their holidays in this fantastic place. The small village of Silvi, famous for its characteristic arches and for offering its visitors a wonderful panoramic view of the Adriatic Sea which on the clearest days can go from Giulianova to Pescara and beyond, is absolutely worth seeing.
