Viewpoints and panoramic points

Category: Nature and parks

The territory of Controguerra is dotted with panoramic points, from which you can enjoy an excellent view. We point out some of them.

Near the ancient village is the panoramic avenue of the North Ring Road, which from the Torrione hill to the village post office offers a privileged observation point over the nearby Marche. The view ranges from San Benedetto del Tronto to the outskirts of Ascoli Piceno, embracing the Marche villages of Porto d'Ascoli, Monteprandone, Monsampolo del Tronto, Spinetoli, Colli del Tronto and Castel di Lama. On clear days it is possible to see even the most distant villages, such as Acquaviva Picena. Clearly visible, to the east, is the neighboring Colonnella, perched on a hill higher than that of Controguerra.

From Via Giovanni Amadio and from the underlying Circonvallazione Sud, on the other hand, you can admire the Mediterranean wonders of the Vibratiana valley. Privileged observation points are the balustrade of Piazza del Commercio, the public belvedere of the Palazzo Comunale, the promenade of Via Giovanni Amadio and the tourist sidewalk of the South Ring Road. The greenery of the valley is interrupted, to the West, by the Gran Sasso massif and by the profile of the Twin Mountains, i.e. the Mountain of Flowers and the Mountain of Campli, and to the East, by the Adriatic Sea. Immersed in nature, some Vibratian villages can be recognized and, with a clear sky, the gaze reaches the Maiella massif.

Also interesting is the glimpse from the hill of Via Patellara, in the local dialect called li costə rannə (the large coasts), due to the steep slope, which allows you to admire the hill of San Venanzio, Colonnella, the Piana del Tronto, the Marches and the Adriatic Sea. Going along the Via Patellara and turning your gaze towards Controguerra, you can admire a suggestive profile of the ancient village.

Outside the village there are numerous panoramic points in the countryside. From Colle Fruscione and, in particular, from the road that descends from the municipal cemetery towards the Piana del Tronto, you can discover a splendid panorama of the Marches. Looking east, you can admire the hills of Controguerra and Colonnella, as well as the gullies and the sea of Porto d'Ascoli.

Another panoramic point of interest is the Torretta: from the top of Colle Forca (or Colle della Forca), the highest point of Controguerra, you can see, looking east, Controguerra, Colonnella, the nearby Marches, the Vibrata valley, which it extends towards the coastal towns of Alba Adriatica and Tortoreto, and the Adriatic Sea. Turning your gaze to the west, the scenery becomes "mountainous" and you can see the valleys of Torano Nuovo and Ancarano and, in the distance, the Monti Gemelli and the Gran Sasso massif. The wind caresses the summit of Colle Forca almost all year round, so much so that some elderly people remember the popular name of "Colle dei sette venti".

To the east of the town is Colle Genovese, from which you can enjoy a superb view of the Pignotto valley, of Controguerra and the Marches. Nearby is Colle Porcino, which offers another splendid panorama of Controguerra, as well as being a privileged observation point towards the Pignotto valley and the coastal area. Also from Colle Porcino, you can also observe Corropoli, Nereto and the mountain massifs of Gran Sasso, Maiella and Monti Gemelli.

Today these panoramic points delight the eye, but in the past they were used as observation points, especially those overlooking the Piana del Tronto.
