On 7 November 2015, Controguerra was recognized as Cittaslow, becoming part of the international network of towns and cities that pursue specific quality of life objectives and that share particular ethical values of sustainable progress and protection of local traditions.
Cittaslow is a brand of international prestige that links municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, active every day to promote and disseminate solutions and services that allow citizens to easily use their city.
Controguerra was recognized as "Cittaslow" in 2015 and pursues the values shared within this manifesto:
1. Cittaslow means quality of life
A Cittaslow protects the quality of life of its citizens. It also pays close attention to those traditions that are linked to sapiential know-how and new modern technologies. Cittaslow's objectives are based on internal solidarity within the community; for this reason the Municipalities promote the utmost care for the environment and ensure that everyone is aware of the defense of their urban and suburban reality.
2. Cittaslow values quality
A Cittaslow is a conscious community that knows how to value its own qualities. This is why a Cittaslow invests in the awareness of its citizens and entrepreneurs, to protect those precious aspects which are the basis of the community. Often one's quality characteristics are appreciated more when they are lost: Cittaslow opposes this cultural erosion which is both economic in the medium and long term.
3. Cittaslow means measurable progress
A Cittaslow invests in sustainability and quality. This commitment is not optional but is measured periodically through institutional evaluations and reviews and through citizen feedback. The Censis institute in Rome, the Cittaslow Scientific Committee, the OECD and other scientific institutions help us to carry out this monitoring of the progress of the project.
4. Cittaslow gives meaning to the city-countryside relationship through its qualities
Cittaslow programmatically connects quality green areas close to each other, sometimes even within a metropolis. A Cittaslow ensures that local cultural history, memory and common and place-specific values are maintained and strengthened. This occurs through the priority given to restoration, reuse, less invasiveness of new works, respect for fertile soil. Our goal is to reduce the ecological footprint, check the quality of residential areas and ecosystems every year, applying a form of classification to all Cittaslow.
5. Cittàslow maintains and develops traditional landscapes and biodiversity
A Cittaslow promotes bio-architecture, organic agriculture and landscape biodiversity, categories that are transversal to many EU own actions, such as the future European agricultural policy. First of all, we are committed to introducing green technologies for mobility, services, infrastructure, etc. In particular, all forms of alternative mobility are favored so that the valuable landscape can be enhanced through cycle paths, footpaths and footpaths.
6. Cittaslow maintains tradition and promotes technological innovation
The best of the past, the best of the present. A Cittaslow pays attention to traditionally made products, artifacts and handicrafts. The "Memory" is one of the most important objectives of Cittaslow and each member community is committed to preserving and handing down its heritage of local know-how and wisdom. At the same time it promotes the adoption of the most innovative techniques, as they are sustainable and do not threaten the environment.
7. Cittaslow promotes regional products and short supply chains
A Cittaslow was founded and inspired by Slow Food, and therefore supports any traditional production and stimulates the development of regional products and "short-chain" trade within its own region.
8. Cittaslow is active citizenship, responsibility and social cohesion
First of all, a Cittaslow is a community of citizens who support each other. A Cittaslow ensures the vitality of the community and guarantees infrastructure, equipment and services for social use. A Cittaslow also ensures its citizens support when needed and stimulates social cohesion among all. The rights of new resident citizens are crucial for local economic and social development.
9. Cittaslow is sustainable for future generations of Europeans
Una Cittaslow chooses sustainable solutions. All useful and positive things and knowledge are preserved and handed down. Recycling and reuse policies are at their best in Europe. This is to lessen any negative impact on the development of future generations.
10. Cittaslow is a tool against poverty, old and new
Cittaslow is active against poverty because projects that promote social inclusion, responsibility and participation are very effective against poverty in the city at the local level. Projects for social inclusion and new citizenship serve to build a future of good living for our communities and to build together a new Europe of citizens.
